RESOLUTIONS:

The status of Marine Avenue as a public right of way or private street was a frequent topic of discussion when I served on the City of Newport's Cliff Walk Commission. Most Newporters can remember, as I do, a larger access area to the Cliff Walk. This resolution directs city administration to determine once and for all the extent of the public right of way along Marine Avenue.

WHEREAS,
|
Marine Avenue has consistently been an issue of debate for the City of Newport regarding public rights; and
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
WHEREAS, |
the Cliff Walk Commission recommends Marine Avenue's status as a public right of way be established to ensure public access to one of the state's most scenic vistas; and
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
WHEREAS, |
it is the responsibility of the City and City Council to bring this issue to a final conclusion. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
RESOLVED: |
the City Administration and the Solicitor's Office come to a definitive determination regarding the public right of way on Marine Avenue and seek whatever remedy deemed necessary to resolve this debate conclusively.
|
