World Heritage Committee for
their participation on the
Newport World Heritage Project.

RESOLUTIONS:
|

|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|

WHEREAS, |
A Newport World Heritage Committee was formed two years ago to determine whether the City of Newport could effectively compete as a World Heritage site;and
|

|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
WHEREAS, |
Designation by the United Nations as a World Heritage Site would foster worldwide attraction to Newport by the international tourism market and the prestige of the designation would raise both the City of Newport’s and State of Rhode Island’s stature in the view of the rest of the country as only 812 sites of natural and/or cultural value around the world have been recognized; and

|

|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|

WHEREAS, |
The Committee has spent many hours over the past two years consulting with bureaucrats, academicians, advocates and international experts to create not one but two applications to the World Heritage Commission on behalf of the City of Newport; and

|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|

WHEREAS, |
Those involved on this committee have already shown their dedication to the World Heritage List’s main mission by demonstrating outstanding values when it comes to preserving Newport’s unique historically and culturally important sites for future generations; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT
